Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Buttock Implants

Tampa Bay BBL patient Sometimes squats just aren’t enough. If you want to enhance the shape and size of your buttocks, you can choose between a few different surgeries. The two main options are fat transfer (commonly called a Brazilian butt lift) and buttock implants.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stan Castor prefers the Brazilian butt lift. It’s superior to implants in several significant ways. Here’s how these approaches compare in terms of:

  • Technique: Brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery uses your excess fatty tissue to make your buttocks bigger and curvier. Since it begins with liposuction in areas such as your hips, thighs, and abdomen, it has the benefit of enhancing your overall figure. Meanwhile, buttocks implants are made of solid silicone and placed using an incision.

  • Risks: It’s important to realize that there are added risks of having implants, such as capsular contracture and infection. Meanwhile, the BBL is safer than ever before, thanks to improved surgical techniques. It has a low risk for complications when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited facility.
  • Results: Patients and surgeons agree that a BBL creates the most natural outcome. The results of this fat grafting procedure tend to look and feel better than a procedure using implants.
  • Longevity: Not all of the fat used during a BBL will survive the transfer. However, the fat that does will remain in the buttocks indefinitely. Implants, on the other hand, are not designed to last forever. Replacing them will require additional surgery.

It’s important to note that a Brazilian butt lift doesn’t work for everyone. That’s because you need to have enough excess fat to inject for the procedure. If you’re very lean and want significant augmentation, you may not be an ideal candidate.
