Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

Facelift Surgery in Tampa

As people age, the effects of gravity, excessive exposure to the sun, and the stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. Deep creases and wrinkles form between the nose and mouth; the jawline grows slack as jowls begin to set in; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck. Men and women who struggle with these effects of age will often lack self-confidence in their appearance and may look older than they actually are. A facelift is specifically designed to target these problem areas, helping to restore a more youthful, well contoured facial appearance.

Facelift surgery is performed by Dr. Stan Castor at Artisan Aesthetics Plastic Surgery and Laser Center. Dr. Castor is a board certified Plastic Surgeon in Tampa, Florida, and is highly skilled and experienced with facelift procedures. He can help you improve the appearance of your face by providing you with beautiful, natural-looking results.

Is a Facelift Right for Me?

A facelift (technically known as rhytidectomy) can’t completely stop this aging process. What it can do is essentially “set back the clock,” improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and re-draping the skin of your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping (rhinoplasty).

Tampa plastic surgeon Dr. Stan Castor feels that the best candidate for a facelift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. Most patients are in their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on people in their seventies or eighties as well. A facelift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self-confidence in the process. However, it can’t give you a totally different look, nor can it restore the health and vitality of your youth. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Castor during your consultation.

How is a Facelift Performed?

When performing your facelift, Dr. Castor will make a careful incision travelling from near your temples, down around the front of your ear, and ending back at the base of your neck. Your incisions will be kept mostly within your hairline, so visible scarring will be minimal. There are also methods using a limited incision that can be used for patients with less severe signs of aging.

Once the incisions are made, Dr. Castor may reshape the underlying facial fat, or can remove stubborn deposits using facial liposuction. The underlying tissue and muscles are lifted to provide a more youthful facial structure. Dr. Castor will then redrape the skin over your face, using his experience to provide for a naturally taut appearance. Any excess skin is then removed and your incisions are closed.
