What Is VASERlipo?

VASER LipoSelection is an alternative to traditional liposuction. Like regular liposuction, VASERlipo involves removing fat with a small suction tube called a cannula. However, the VASER system is unique because it utilizes ultrasound-assisted technology to help break up unwanted fat for removal. In other words, the treatment relies on safe sound waves to liquefy fatty deposits.

This incredibly precise treatment does not harm the surrounding tissue. Itā€™s strong enough to treat large areas of the body and gentle enough to smooth and define small areas.

VASERlipo treatment areas include:

  • Face, neck, and chin
  • Chest and breasts
  • Upper arms
  • Abdomen
  • Sides
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Behind the knees
  • ā€œBra fatā€
  • Lower back
  • Buttocks

VASERlipo is often a great choice for men and women who want to achieve a slimmer, better-contoured figure. Generally speaking, you may be a great candidate for VASERlipo if you:

  • Are in good general health
  • Are at a stable weight
  • Have good skin elasticity
  • Are at least 18 years old

Itā€™s important to note that liposuction is not a weight loss treatment. Patients should be near their ideal weight before the VASERlipo procedure.

Additionally, VASERlipo is not designed to improve cellulite. If you want to correct cellulite, Dr. Castor offers Cellfinaįµ€į“¹ and Accent cellulite reduction. He will happily discuss these options during your consultation.

What Are Good Target Areas For VASER Liposuction?

VASER can target virtually any area of your body that has stubborn excess fat. Many people have a few problem spots. The good news is that VASER can shape and sculpt multiple areas in a single procedure for comprehensive results.

Some common target areas for VASER include the jowls, chin and neck, abdomen, hips and love handles, and arms. It also works great on the back, buttocks, and thighs. Even areas such as the knees, calves, and ankles can be treated, allowing you to confidently show off your legs.

Does VASERlipo Tighten Skin?

VASER liposuction will not tighten your skin. However, it does use ultrasonic energy that has been clinically shown to provide better skin retraction than traditional liposuction surgery. This results in better contouring and a smoother shape compared to older fat removal methods.

If you are interested in skin tightening benefits, you can easily combine your VASER LipoSelection procedure with a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment called Renuvion.

Our practice also offers SmartLipoĀ® and GPS lipo. These procedures use laser energy to remove fat and tighten the skin. Dr. Castor will help you pick the best option for your needs.

For skin that is significantly saggy or loose, you may see better results from a procedure that removes excess skin. Your options include tummy tuck surgery and upper arm lift surgery.

What Are The Risks Of VASER Liposuction?

VASER liposuction is a low-risk fat removal procedure. However, it can have side effects. Some of the most common side effects after VASER include temporary bruising, aching, and swelling.

You can reduce your risk of more serious complications with a few simple steps. First, visit a board-certified plastic surgeon who has extensive experience with liposuction. Then, be sure to follow all of the preoperative and postoperative instructions that you receive from the practice.

How Long Does It Take To Recover From Liposuction?

Traditional liposuction usually requires four to seven days off of work. It takes around a week to heal enough to perform moderate activities. Meanwhile, strenuous exercises are off-limits for around three weeks. VASER liposuction is a gentler procedure that often needs a shorter recovery. However, it is important to listen to your body and follow our recommendations for easing back into your routine. Your recovery will vary depending on the extent of your surgery.

What Should I Expect From The VASERlipo Procedure

Dr. Castor will perform your VASERlipo procedure in our accredited in-office surgical suite. There is no need for general anesthesia; instead, local anesthesia is often appropriate. The length of your VASERlipo treatment depends on several factors, such as the size of the treatments area and the number of areas you want to address.

Improving your contours with VASERlipo takes three steps:

  1. Administering a numbing solution into the fat cells. Typically, the numbing solution is lidocaine. This step is sometimes referred to as tumescent infusion.
  2. Using the VASER sound waves to liquefy the fat cells. These sound waves are delivered internally through a small metal probe. They help to gently dislodge and separate stubborn clumps of fat.
  3. Removing the liquefied fat cells from the body. Castor will smoothly guide a small cannula back and forth to suction out unwanted liquefied cells. The result is a more defined, contoured treatment area.

After the treatment, your skin will naturally begin to lay over your new contours. Since the elastic connective tissues are preserved, your skin can adjust to your new shape more easily than with traditional liposuction.

There is minimal downtime after VASERlipo. For many patients, this is a significant advantage over the classic method. The average patient is back to work in a few days. Most patients tell us that the recovery is no more than a good work-out at the gym.

Best of all, your results are long-lasting as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Adults have a fixed number of fat cells in their bodies. The fat that is removed canā€™t return, though the remaining cells can still expand with weight gain.
