Questions You Might Have After Liposuction

Elegant beach woman in bikini and fashion sarong standing on shore. Many people struggle with carrying around excess body fat every day. A liposuction procedure is a good option for those who need to lose stubborn fat when diet and exercise fail to cause them to lose that fat. Liposuction can be done in many areas, including the abdomen, thighs, and hips.

Some people have unrealistic expectations for their liposuction procedure, and when they do not get the desired results, they feel disappointed. Knowing what to expect after your procedure and what your plastic surgeon will say about your after-care should help you to achieve the results you are looking for.

What’s liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure in which fat is removed from specific parts of the body using suction. Liposuction can also shape these areas. Liposuction is also known as lipoplasty and body contouring.

What happens after I get liposuction?

You can expect some discomfort following the procedure and some bruising, redness, or swelling. The pain can be relieved with prescribed medications. Taking a few prescribed medications can help you feel more comfortable during the first few days after having the procedure.

Compression garments may help to reduce swelling and speed up healing. Swelling will subside after the first week, but you should continue wearing compression garments until the fourth week or as otherwise directed. Some people have swelling that may last up to six weeks, but it should subside within a few days.

Will I have scars after a liposuction procedure?

When you have a liposuction procedure, tiny incisions will be made to remove the excess fat cells. These small incisions are made in a few areas of your body to allow your body to shrink and become more attractive naturally. You should receive after-care instructions for your incisions to care for them properly. These instructions should help you ensure that your incisions heal properly and that you don’t have any problems with their appearance.

What can I do to heal my body and achieve a natural-looking appearance?

Many fat cells removed during liposuction will be permanently gone, but the remaining cells can continue to store fat and grow in size. Maintaining a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water, and exercising regularly (once your surgeon instructs you to do so) can promote the healing process, keep you at a healthy weight, and help you keep your body shape once the swelling is gone.
