How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Last?

young woman in underwear on beige background.Every year, thousands of people undergo buttock augmentation with fat grafting — otherwise known as a Brazilian butt lift or BBL — according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. And it isn’t just the double-take-worthy outcomes that make this procedure so widely popular. Brazilian butt lift surgery is sought after because it can offer incredibly long-lasting results.

What Happens to a BBL After Years?

Unlike butt implants that typically need to be removed and replaced every ten years, the fat cells that are transferred during a BBL surgery (and survive the process) will essentially last forever. Some of the fat cells are lost during the initial phase of healing. It is normal and to be expected.

Fortunately, the fat cells that remain roughly four months after surgery will be there permanently. You can expect no significant changes in volume aside from the ones that may occur due to age. However, it is important to take a few simple steps to keep your results looking optimal.

Maintaining Your BBL Results

The best way to protect the results you love is to maintain your weight after getting a Brazilian butt lift. The fat transfer process permanently moves excess fat cells to your backside. However, those cells can shrink with significant weight loss. Similarly, they can expand with weight gain. Both situations may alter your proportions and the appearance of your results.

Some patients incorporate glute exercises after the recovery period to enhance their outcomes. Lunges, squats, and similar movements can increase the definition of your backside. Just remember that overdoing it in the gym might result in a decrease in your body-fat percentage.
